This bold and cheerful winter tequila sangria is easy to make and the perfect way to kick off any holiday gathering with a flavorful bang.

Festive Tequila Sangria
Last Christmas, my pomegranate Margarita was a huge hit with my guests, so this year, I decided to use those same flavors and add an extra twist. This winter I'm making a winter Paloma and today's tequila sangria, which blends fresh fruit soaked in a combination of alcohols for one merry cocktail!
What You Need
You'll make simple syrup with sugar and water for sweetening (if you add the sugar to the pitcher, it won't dissolve well). You'll also use orange and pomegranate seeds (apples and pears also work), white wine (I recommend Pinot Grigio or Valdepeñas), tequila, Grand Marnier or Cointreau (or triple sec), orange juice, and sparkling water (unflavored, lime, or any citrus flavor).
How to Make a Tequila Sangria
- Make the simple syrup by dissolving sugar in water, then boiling it.
- Fill the pitcher with orange slices, pomegranate seeds, wine, tequila, liquor, and juice.
- Refrigerate for one hour. Before serving, add the sparkling water.
- Garnish with cinnamon sticks, star anise, fresh or dried orange slices, cranberries, rosemary sprigs, or a cinnamon sugar rim!

Winter Tequila Sangria

Ingredients
- ⅓ cup sugar
- ⅓ cup water
- 1 orange, sliced
- ½ cup pomegranate seeds
- 1 bottle of white wine, pinot grigio or Valdepeñas (Spanish white wine)
- ½ cup tequila
- ½ cup Grand Marnier or Cointreau, or triple sec
- ¼ cup orange juice
- 3 cups sparkling water, about 3 12-ounce cans
Instructions
Make the simple syrup:
- In a small saucepan over medium-high heat, bring water and sugar to a boil, stirring frequently, until the sugar has completely dissolved and the liquid is clear. Remove from heat and let it cool completely.
Make the sangria:
- Wash the orange slice the ends off, slice it in half, and then into half-moon slices. Transfer the orange slices and pomegranate seeds to a pitcher.
- Pour the white wine, tequila, Grand Marnier (or Cointreau or triple sec), and orange juice into the pitcher. Use a long wooden spoon to stir.
Refrigerate
- Refrigerate the pitcher of sangria for 1 hour. Can be made a day ahead.
Serve
- Pour the sparkling water into the pitcher and stir to combine.
- Fill glasses with ice and pour the sangria over the ice. Add a couple of boozy orange slices from the pitcher into each glass and enjoy.
