Is a Pomegranate Margarita Good?
If you enjoy a Classic Margarita and the tartness of pomegranate juice, you'll love this margarita recipe's flavor. Like the classic, it uses ingredients like tequila, lime juice, and Cointreau or Triple Sec to make a festive happy hour drink!
This weekend, while planning a get-together with girlfriends, I wanted to mix things up from the traditional holiday cranberry Margarita while still keeping the classic sweet and tart combinations. That's when I was inspired to create this pomegranate Margarita that gives off a festive red hue and flavors so delicious it will leave everyone craving refills!
Ingredients
Everything about this pomegranate margarita screams festivity and holiday cheer! Here's what you need to make this stunning cocktail for your holiday celebrations:
- Tequila: use your favorite brand of Blanco or Silver.
- Cointreau or Triple Sec: these orange-flavored liquors will sweeten and balance out the tart pomegranate juice.
- Pomegranate juice: freshly squeezed or store-bought. You'll want to use juice and not bottled concentrate for the most authentic flavor.
- Lime juice: freshly squeezed is the best.
- Garnishes: salt or sugar (optional) for rimming, pomegranate seeds, lime wedges, and rosemary sprigs.

What is the Best Tequila for a Pomegranate Margarita?
Silver or Blanco tequila are both high-quality options commonly used in most margarita recipes. For a richer flavor profile, you could also try Reposado tequila, which has an oakier taste, similar to whisky.
How to Make a Pomegranate Margarita
Grab your shaker, and let's get shakin! Here is how to make a festive pomegranate Margarita with some additional tips in each step to ensure the best sip:
- Prep the Glass
If you enjoy a salted or sugared rim, you'll want to start by prepping your glass first so you can enjoy your drink right after making it. - Make the cocktail
In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine all required ingredients. You'll want to give everything a good shake until the sides of the glass are nice and frosted. - Serve & Garnish
Give your shaken mixture a good strain before pouring it into your prepared glass over fresh ice. Top this drink with pomegranate arlis, a rosemary sprig, and a lime wedge. Enjoy!
Can I Add Simple Syrup to this Pomegranate Margarita?
Yes, you can! Simple syrup is omitted in this recipe because pomegranate juice and the orange liquor add enough sweetness without overpowering the flavors. However, if you prefer a sweeter drink, feel free to add simple syrup to taste.

How Should I Serve this Pomegranate Margarita?
This pomegranate Margarita is best enjoyed when served in a lowball glass, rimmed with tequila salt, and garnished with fresh pomegranate arils, lime wedges for a hint of citrus and rosemary sprigs for the perfect finishing touch.
