What is a Christmas Moscow Mule
A Christmas Moscow Mule (aka Yule Mule) is a twist on a Moscow Mule that mixes ginger beer, lime juice, and alcohol with a bit of cranberry juice for a festive red hue! The best part about this recipe? It swaps out vodka for tequila to make a joyous boozy holiday drink!
Christmas at my house is only complete with festive tequila cocktails, tequila Christmas punch, and great company. This year, I've put my spin on a crowd-pleasing favorite with a splash of tart cranberry juice to create an epic Christmas Moscow Mule with Tequila! One sip and you and your guests will be in the holiday spirit in no time!
Ingredients
This Christmas Moscow Mule with tequila requires only a few simple ingredients you might have in your bar at home! Here is everything you need to get the party started:
- Tequila: give this holiday drink an upgrade by using reposado tequila. Blanco or Silver tequilas also work, just like in a classic Mexican Mule.
- Cranberry juice: a staple in many holiday cocktails and provides this drink with a red hue.
- Lime juice: freshly squeezed is always the best!
- Ginger beer: an iconic ingredient in the classic Moscow mule.
- Garnishes: lime wedges, cranberries, and a sprig of rosemary for a festive touch.
Tequila or Vodka
Moscow mules are typically made with vodka, but tequila brings a unique twist that pairs well with ginger beer. This Christmas version swaps in Reposado tequila with warm, oaky, and vanilla notes, which complements the ginger beer perfectly. Try it both ways and see which one you prefer!

How to Make a Christmas Moscow Mule
Grab your shaker, and let's get shaking. The detailed steps for making this Christmas Moscow Mule are in the recipe card below; here are some additional tips to ensure the best drink:
- Make the cocktail
In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine the required ingredients, leaving out the ginger beer to avoid any mess. Shake well until the sides of the shaker are frosted. - Pour
Fill a copper mug with ice cubes and strain the shaken mixture into the mug, leaving some room at the top. Top it off with ginger beer and give it a good stir with a cocktail spoon. - Garnish
Finishing the cocktail with a handful of cranberries, a lime wedge, and a sprig of rosemary for a festive touch. Enjoy!
Christmas Moscow Mule Pitcher
Make a pitcher of this iconic drink, serving 6, by increasing the quantities to 1 ½ cups alcohol, 1 ½ cups cranberry juice, 3 ounces of lime juice, and 24 ounces of ginger beer. Pour all ingredients into the pitcher, add ice, stir well, and place in the refrigerator until your guests arrive. Enjoy!
Best Christmas Garnishes
Make your Christmas cocktails more festive by garnishing them with cranberries, cinnamon sticks, dehydrated orange slices, rosemary sprigs, and for a sweet surprise in every sip, a sugared rim makes for the perfect finishing touch!
