Mix things up and discover how to make this easy Strawberry Margarita on the rocks with an irresistible fizz.

Fresh Strawberry Margarita
When my girlfriends and I get together, Frozen Strawberry Margaritas are always at the top of our happy hour menu! But when looking to keep it light, a Skinny Strawberry Margarita always satisfies those same cravings!
While celebrating a friend's birthday at the bar this past weekend, I decided to switch things up and try this strawberry margarita on the rocks. Friends, I was amazed at how this simple change elevated one of my favorites, a Classic Margarita on the rocks.
Ingredients
The measurements for this Strawberry Margarita on the Rocks recipe will be in the recipe card below; but before you make substitutions and end up with a no bueno cocktail, here is what you'll need:
- Strawberries: fresh or frozen, whatever you have on hand will work just as well. If you are using frozen, make sure to thaw them first.
- Simple syrup: or honey. Optional for a touch of added sweetness.
- Tequila: use your favorite brand of Blanco or Silver.
- Triple sec or Cointreau: a classic staple in any good margarita recipe, this adds a citrus flavor to the mix.
- Lime juice: freshly squeezed is always the best.
- Sparkling water: or Topo Tico to add height to your cocktail and give it a light fizz.
- Garnishes: tequila salt and additional fresh berries to elevate your cocktail. optional for rimming the glass.
You can also use leftover jam to make a single-serve Jargarita!
How to Make A Strawberry Marg on the Rocks
Making this margarita recipe is simple, and some additional tips in each step that ensure the best drink include:
- Prep the glass
If salted rims are your jam, prep the glass first to enjoy your margarita right after making it. - Make the cocktail
Give those strawberries a good smashing; you will want to release as much juice as possible to get that delicious natural sweetness. Always add ice to the shaker to chill your cocktail as you mix it. - Serve & Garnish
Make sure to divide the cocktail into two glasses filled with fresh ice, leaving plenty of room, about ⅓ of the glass, to top it with sparkling water.

Are Margaritas Usually on the Rocks
It depends on your happy hour preference! That's one of the many things I love about margaritas; depending on your mood, you can enjoy it frozen or on the rocks! Try this recipe both ways and decide which one is your favorite.
Straining a Strawberry Margarita
For a smoother drinking experience, without finding strawberry tidbits in each sip, I recommend straining your strawberry margarita as you pour it into the ice-filled glass.

- 1 ½ ounces Cointreau or triple sec
- 2 ounces lime juice, about 1 lime
- Sparkling water (optional), to top off

Instructions
Prep:
- If you enjoy a salted glass, prep the rim of your glasses by rubbing a lime wedge along the rim. Dip in tequila salt, and set aside.
Make the marg:
- Place the diced strawberries and the simple syrup inside a cocktail shaker. Use a muddler to smash them until all the berries have released all their juices and it resembles a strawberry paste.
- Add the tequila, triple sec or Cointreau, lime juice, and a handful of ice. Shake vigorously until the sides are fully frosted.
Serve:
- Fill the two prepared glasses with ice. Strain the strawberry margarita through the strainer and pour it into the prepared glasses. Top off with sparkling water, to make it a taller cocktail. Garnish with a fresh strawberry and lime wedge.
