With cozy spice, bright citrus, and a silky foam top, this cinnamon tequila sour is equal parts comforting and refreshing!

Tequila Sour with Cinnamon
I first made this tequila sour with cinnamon years ago trying to impress a date. Instead of a regular tequila sour, I added cinnamon syrup on a whim. The result is this cozy, citrusy cocktail with a hint of spice and a dreamy, foamy top!
That date turned into a second...and a third. Moral of the story? Don't be afraid to improvise-just like I did with this tequila and apple juice cocktail when we wanted margaritas, but all I could find was one of my kid's juice boxes!
Ingredients
Everything you need to make this tequila cocktail is in the recipe card below, but here's why I'm using these ingredients:
- Reposado tequila: gives smooth vanilla-caramel notes that match perfectly with cinnamon.
- Cinnamon syrup: If you don't have cinnamon syrup, use simple syrup for cocktails and ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon. If it's too strong, mix ½ ounce of cinnamon syrup and ½ ounce of simple syrup in the shaker.
- Lemon juice: freshly squeezed is the best.
- Egg white: a classic ingredient in this cocktail; this will create that signature foam top.
- Orange bitters: gives the the whole drink a nice, subtle citrus flavor.
- Garnish: orange slices and ground cinnamon give this drink a cozy, warm vibe.
The Egg White Topping
Adding egg white to this cocktail gives it that classic foam top that makes sours so satisfying-and it's totally safe. The alcohol and citrus kill any bacteria during the shaking process. Trust me, once you try that silky texture, you won't think twice.
How to Make a Cinnamon Tequila Sour
Do some warm-up stretches and grab your cocktail shaker, because you're going to be doing some serious shaking for this one! Here's how to make the perfect cinnamon tequila sour:
- Make the cocktail
Add the egg white, tequila, cinnamon syrup, lemon juice, and orange bitters to your shaker without ice and shake vigorously for a full minute. This is what builds that iconic foam.
Next, add some ice to the shaker and shake for an additional 30 seconds until the sides are fully frosted. This creates a bit more foam and chills the drink. - Garnish & serve
Strain your cocktail into a glass and garnish with a dried orange slice and a dusting of ground cinnamon over the foam. Sip, enjoy, repeat!
Dry Shake Your Sours
A dry shake just means shaking your cocktail without ice first. This helps whip the egg into a thick, silky foam. During the second shake, ice is added to the mix to chill the drink and helps to create a bit more of that beautiful, cloud-like top!
