Double up on the citrus with this refreshing lemon lime margarita recipe.

Those of us who love lemon and lime cocktails equally can now have the best of both worlds in this margarita!

If you enjoy a good tart yet delicious cocktail with tequila, you'll love this refreshing mix of lemon and lime in this drink! This cocktail will quickly become a summer time classic!

Refreshing Lemon Lime Margarita

This lemon-lime margarita is one of my go-to summer cocktails because it's ultra-refreshing, and I can make one drink or a pitcher to enjoy with friends on a hot summer day!

If you're into refreshing cocktails that cool you down, try my Tequila Lemonade, Lavender Margarita, a Cherry Limeade Margarita, Raspberry Peach Margarita, or a Blueberry Lime Margarita.

What You Need

You'll find the amounts to this lemon lime margarita in the recipe card below; but before you make any swaps, check out why each ingredient is needed:

  • Blanco or Silver Tequila: use your favorite brand.
  • Cointreau or Triple Sec: adds the citrus liquor element to this margarita. Learn more about the differences between cointreau and triple sec here.
  • Lime Juice: freshly squeezed is always the best.
  • Lemon Juice: you guessed it, freshly squeezed!
  • Simple Syrup: or honey. Optional for added sweetness.
  • Lemon & Lime Wedges: For garnish.
  • Mint: optional added garnish.

How to Make A Lemon-Lime Margarita

The detailed steps for making this cocktail are written in detail in the recipe card; here are some additional tips in each to ensure the best drink:

  1. Prep the Glass
Prepping the glass before you serve allows you to salt the rim if that's what you enjoy.
  2. Make the Cocktail
Just like making a Classic Margarita, you'll combine everything in a cocktail shaker with ice.
  3. Serve
Add fresh ice or pour the shaken ice along with the drink -that's up to you.
  4. Garnish
Lime or lemon slices or both, plus some fresh mint, if you have it, will rock your cocktail's world.

Make it by the Pitcher

Whenever I have friends over, and the weather calls for something ultra-refreshing, I make a pitcher of this lemon-lime margarita so I can make 6 to 8 servings at once! You'll combine ¾ cup of lime juice (about 6 limes), ¾ cup lemon juice (about 6 lemons), 1 ½ cups Cointreau or triple sec, 3 ½ cups silver or Blanco tequila in a pitcher. Add some fresh lemon and lime slices to soak up the flavors, and refrigerate until you're ready to serve it over ice.

How to Serve a Lemon-Lime Margarita

The best way to serve this refreshing drink is to top the glass with lemon or lime wedges and a fresh sprig of mint! Pick one or all three! Either way, these garnishes combine to make the ultimate summertime drink!

If you are looking to pair this margarita with something even more delicious you have to try my easy Street Tacos made in the slow cooker! Minimal effort, and in a few short hours, you can enjoy perfectly tender beef rib tacos and pair it with this refreshing margarita! Win, win!

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ ounces tequila
  • 1 ¼ ounces Cointreau or Triple Sec
  • ½ ounce lime juice, about ½ lime
  • ½ ounce lemon juice, about ½ lemon
  • 1 ounce simple syrup, optional
  • Lemon and lime wedges, for garnish
  • Mint, for garnish

Instructions

Prep:

  • If you enjoy a salted glass, prep the rim of your glass by rubbing a lime wedge along the rim. Dip in tequila salt, and set aside.

Shake:

  • Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and add tequila, Cointreau or Triple Sec, lime juice, lemon juice, and simple syrup. Shake until the sides are fully frosted.

Serve:

  • Pour, with the ice, into a highball or footed glass and garnish with a wedge of lemon, lime, or both.

Notes

  • Make this a longer cocktail by topping it a few ounces of club soda, sparkling water, or lemonade or limeade.
  • Make a pitcher by combining ¾ cup lime juice (about 6 limes), ¾ cup lemon juice (about 6 lemons), 1 ½ cups Cointreau or triple sec, 3 ½ cups silver tequila in a pitcher. Mix well, add lemon and lime slices in the pitcher, and refrigerate. Pour over ice.
