This dragon fruit margarita is a delicious and visually stunning cocktail that's easy to make at home.

Bright, bold, and bursting with flavor, this dragon fruit Margarita is one of those drinks you just can't get enough of!

Dragon Fruit Margarita

Best Dragon Fruit Margarita

I often buy a frozen bag of dragonfruit for my smoothies because it's packed with vitamin C, fiber, and antioxidants, so it should be no surprise that I turned this delicious fruit into an epic dragon fruit margarita.

The lightly sweet flavor of dragon fruit pairs perfectly with the citrus flavors of your favorite margaritas.  Combine the two, and what you get is a wow-worthy cocktail!

What Does a Dragon Fruit Margarita Taste Like?

The flavor of this dragon fruit is subtly sweet, with hints of kiwi and pear. It has a refreshing and mildly tropical taste that makes for the perfect happy hour combo!

Ingredients

Everything you need to make this fruity dragon fruit Margarita will be listed in the recipe card below, but before you make any swaps, see why each ingredient is needed:

  • Dragon fruit: gives this drink its vibrant color and bold flavor, use fresh or frozen.
  • Water: helps to blend up the dragon fruit for the base of this cocktail.
  • Tequila: use your favorite brand of Blanco or Silver.
  • Cointreau: or triple sec, a staple ingredient in the best Margarita recipes.
  • Lime juice: freshly squeezed is the best.
  • Simple syrup: adds a bit of sweetness to the mix (optional).
  • Garnishes: salt (optional for rimming) and lime wedges.

Do You Use Fresh or Frozen Dragon Fruit?

You can use both fresh or frozen dragon fruit to make the fruity syrup that goes into the margarita! I love buying a large bag of frozen dragon fruit, mixing it up, and saving the leftovers for smoothies and other fruity Margarita recipes like this!

How to Make a Dragon Fruit Margarita

Ready to sip your way to paradise? See how to make this gorgeous dragon fruit Margarita with a few additional tips in each step to ensure the perfect sip:

  1. Prep the glass
If salted rims are your jam, you'll want to start by prepping your glass first so you can enjoy your drink right after making it.
  2. Blend it Up
In a blender, combine the dragon fruit and water to create a nice, thick puree. Strain your mixture through a sieve to remove any solids; for a thicker texture, pour the mixture directly into the shaker.
  3. Make the cocktail
In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, pour your blended mixture along with all other ingredients together. Give everything a vigorous shake until the sides of the glass are nice and frosted.
  4. Serve & Garnish
To your prepared glass filled with fresh ice, pour your shaken mixture. Top with a lime wedge for a pop of color and additional flavor. Enjoy!

Serving This Margarita

I love serving this Margarita with a fresh lime wedge and a salted rim for the best of both garnish worlds! For a sweeter touch, try serving this drink with a sugared rim for added sweetness and a dehydrated orange slice for a pop of citrusy flavor!

Having guests over? This drink pairs perfectly with my Hawaiian pork tacos or my classic street tacos topped with my refreshing pineapple salsa recipe!

Ingredients

  • ⅓ cup dragon fruit, fresh or frozen
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 3 ounces tequila
  • 3 ounces Cointreau or triple sec*
  • 2 ounces lime juice
  • ½ ounce Simple syrup, optional
  • Salt for the rim, optional
  • Lime wedge for garnish

Instructions

Prep:

  • Blend the dragon fruit and a little water until you get a thick puree. Pour it through a sieve into the shaker, holding back any solids and using the back of a spoon to press the juice through. For a thicker texture, pour it directly into the shaker.
  • If you enjoy a rimmed glass, prep the rim of your glass by rubbing a lime wedge along the rim. Dip in tequila salt, and set aside.

Shake:

  • To the shaker with the dragon fruit juice, add ice, tequila, triple sec, lime juice, and simple syrup. Shake vigorously for 20 to 30 seconds.

Serve:

  • Pour the dragon fruit margarita into the prepared glasses and garnish with a lime wedge.

Notes

Use any additional dragonfruit purée for another cocktail or smoothie.
