Combine tequila and orange juice to make an epic Tequila Screwdriver for a brunch-worthy cocktail at home.

With just two ingredients and the right amounts of each, you'll be sipping on a refreshing tequila and orange juice cocktail really fast!

Can You Mix Tequila with Orange Juice?

You not only can mix tequila and orange juice, you should! The peppery flavor from the tequila pairs amazingly well with the sweetness of orange juice. In fact, since I love tequila cocktails, this is my go-to brunch drink to make.

What I love about this 2-ingredient drink for a weekend breakfast with friends is that not everyone enjoys the tomato juice in a Bloody Maria, and it's not as strong and citric as a Classic Margarita.

Tequila Orange Juice A.K.A. Tequila Screwdriver

The classic pairing of orange juice and tequila is better known as a Tequila Screwdriver, a nod to the WWII era when servicemen mixed their spirits with orange juice to make it more enjoyable.

The flavor of your Tequila Screwdriver improves with the type of tequila you use, and while you don't need to use an expensive Reposado tequila, I recommend using a quality Blanco tequila.

Ingredients

The measurements for this Tequila and Orange Juice cocktail recipe will be in the recipe card below; but before you make substitutions, here is why each ingredient is used:

  • Tequila: use your favorite brand. If you don't have a favorite one, check out some of my recommendations below.
  • Orange juice: it is worth squeezing fresh orange juice, but store-bought works too!
  • Orange slices: optional, for garnish.

How to Make Orange Juice & Tequila

The detailed steps for making this Orange Juice & Tequila cocktail are written in detail in the recipe card; here are some additional tips in each to ensure the best drink:

  1. Make the cocktail
The best part about this drink is that it gets mixed with a spoon in the same glass you'll drink it from. Win-win!
  2. Garnish
I always like to add an orange slice cut in half into half moons that will become boozy and delicious after it sits in your drink.

Make it a Sunrise

Make this cocktail a Tequila Sunrise by adding ¼ ounce of grenadine syrup. It's just as refreshing, a little sweeter, and goes down easy!

Best Tequila to Use with Juice

Reserve your Reposados and Añejo tequila for sipping all you need is a quality everyday tequila like these to mix with juice.

How to Serve Tequila and Orange Juice

This simple cocktail is served inside a glass filled with ice and garnished with fresh orange slices. You can give it a fancy look by adding a sprig of rosemary like I did today for a nice, colorful touch.

How Strong is a Tequila Screwdriver?

Tequila Screwdriver is considered a mild cocktail with a juice-to-tequila ratio of 3:1. Since it's a drink made of two ingredients, you can make it stronger by pouring more tequila.
