Spooky Margarita for Your Halloween Party

As the resident bartender, each year, I go all out with a new fun drink to serve at our trick-or-treating get-together. Recently, my skinny blackberry margarita has been a winner, so naturally, I turned it into the featured Spooky Blackberry Margarita.

Other epic winners in years past have included this Fun Halloween Cocktail with Tequila and my Purple Halloween Margarita made with Blue Curacao.

Ingredients

The measurements for this Spooky Blackberry Margarita will be in the recipe card below; but before you make swaps, here is why each ingredient is used:

  • Blackberry syrup: a simple mix of blackberries, sugar, and water. An easy 10-minute recipe you can prep-ahead and keep in the fridge for up to a week.
  • Tequila:  use your favorite brand of Blanco or Silver.
  • Lime juice: freshly squeezed is the best.
  • Triple sec or Cointreau: the essential citrus liquor in every margarita recipe.
  • Garnishes: blackberries and sanding sugar, optional for rimming.

How to Make a Spooky Blackberry Margarita

Making this margarita recipe is simple, and some additional tips in each step that ensure the best drink include:

  1. Make the blackberry syrup
Whether you use fresh or frozen blackberries, this fruity, rich syrup is the base for this cocktail. You'll want to strain it once it's made to avoid those pesky seeds in your cocktail. Save extra syrup in the fridge for up to a week, and enjoy it as a delicious syrup for pancakes!
  2. Fill the pitcher
The easiest way to mix this cocktail is directly inside a pitcher.
  3. Chill
This epic drink tastes better cold, so make sure to place it in the fridge for at least an hour.
  4. Pour & Garnish
Give the pitcher a good stir before you serve it over fresh ice, and garnish it with your favorite spooky things.

Add a few tricks to your cocktail by rimming the glass with black and orange sanding sugar, garnish with blackberries on a cocktail pick, or use picks adorned with eerie Halloween cutouts for an extra thrill!

Ingredients

For the blackberry syrup:

  • ½ cup water
  • 6 oz fresh blackberries
  • ½ cup sugar

For the cocktail:

  • 1 ½ cups tequila, silver or blanco
  • 1 ¼ cup Cointreau or Triple sec
  • 1 cup lime juice, about 6 limes
  • 1 cup blackberry syrup
  • Sanding sugar, for rimming

Instructions

Make the syrup:

  • Combine the blackberries, sugar, and water in a saucepan. Cook the mixture for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened.
  • Remove from the stove and let it cool down to room temperature. Press through a fine sieve into a bowl and discard the blackberry seeds. Transfer into a jar and refrigerate up to a week.

Make & Chill:

  • Pour the tequila, Cointreau or Triple Sec, lime juice, and blackberry syrup into a pitcher. Add a handful of ice cubes and refrigerate for one hour.

Prep the glasses:

  • Prep your glass by rubbing a lime wedge along the rim. Dip in sanding sugar, plain sugar, or tequila salt, and set aside.

Get ready to sip:

  • Fill the glass with a few ice cubes and fill the rest with the blackberry margarita.
