Red White and Blue Cocktail

I took two of my favorite summer cocktails, the Blueberry Lime Margarita and my Tequila Lemonade to create this refreshing and festive Independence Day Margarita. Add a bit of fresh fruit and turn it into a red, white, and blue cocktail that you and your friends can sip on all day long.

It's like sipping on grownup limeade infused with fresh fruit and boozed up with your favorite tequila. Use my recipe to make 4 glasses or a pitcher, both ensuring good times for all!

Ingredients

You'll find the amounts to this Red White and Blue margarita is in the recipe card below; but before you make any swaps, check out why each ingredient is needed:

  • Red layer: watermelon slices or strawberries, either will work to make the beautiful red color in this margarita.
  • White layer: Limeade with Blanco or Silver Tequila, use your favorite brand.
  • Blue layer: fresh or frozen blueberries; whatever you have on hand will work.
  • Cointreau or Triple sec:adds the citrus liquor element to this margarita. Learn more about the differences between Cointreau and triple sec here.
  • Lime wedges: For garnish.

How to Make a Red White & Blue Margarita

The detailed steps for making this cocktail are written in detail in the recipe card; here are some additional tips in each to ensure the best drink:

  1. Prep the fruit
Place the watermelon on a flat surface and cut it into slices. Using a star-shaped cutter, cut the slices or keep it simple and just cut it into cubes.
  2. Prep the glass
In a cocktail glass, add in the fresh or frozen blueberries, and fill with ice.
  3. Make the fruity base
In a cocktail shaker, combine the alcohol and limeade together and shake until the sides are frothy.
  4. Pour
Add the combined mixture over top blueberries and top with more ice if needed.
  5. Garnish
Top this patriotic cocktail off with the star-shaped watermelon or strawberries, and add in a lime wedge for the ultimate combination.

Make Patriotic Margaritas for a Crowd

If you are celebrating Independence Day with friends and family, this festive margarita is the perfect addition to your event! I make a pitcher of this Red White & Blue margarita so I can make 6 to 8 servings at once! You'll combine 1 ½ cups tequila, 1 cup Cointreau or triple sec, and 4 cups limeade into a pitcher. Refrigerate it until ready to serve and enjoy!

What to Serve with Red White & Blue Margaritas

This delicious tequila cocktail is perfect for entertaining or sipping on while you're grilling skewers on the grill. Fill a bowl with chips and serve these with some chunky avocado salsa or spicy guacamole, or whip up an easy restaurant-style salsa in your blender.
