Where bold flavors meet refreshment, this orange Mezcalita will surely leave you craving a second glass.

Orange Mezcal Margarita
When it comes to tequila cocktails, I am all about using fresh fruit juice to add natural sweetness to the mix! But when I'm craving a twist, I reach for the Mezcal.
This weekend, I hosted a family brunch, and to me, nothing screams brunch more than orange juice and booze. I decided to take a spin on my Orange Margarita Recipe and add a smoky twist to create this orange Mezcalita! This drink combines the perfect amount of sweet and bold flavors for an epic cocktail you won't be able to resist!
What Does a Mezcalita Taste Like
A Mezcalita has the same delicious taste as a classic Margarita but with an addition of a delightful smoky flavor. This recipe uses the same staple ingredients as a traditional Margarita recipe but swaps tequila for Mezcal. Learn more about the differences between tequila and Mezcal here!
Ingredients
Everything you need to shake up this orange Mezcalita will be listed in the recipe card below, but before you make any swaps, see why each ingredient is used:
- Mezcal: use your favorite brand.
- Cointreau: or triple sec, a citrus liquor that will balance out the cocktail flavors.
- Orange juice: freshly squeezed is worth it for this recipe, but store-bought will also do.
- Lime juice: freshly squeezed is the best.
- Simple syrup: (optional) adds a bit of sweetness to the mix.
- Garnishes: Tajin (optional) for rimming, orange and lime wedges.
How to Make an Orange Mezcalita
Grab the Mezcal, and let's get shakin'! Here is how to make an orange Mezcalita with a few additional tips in each step to ensure the best sip:
- Prep the glass
If you enjoy a coated rim, you'll want to start by rimming the glass with Tajin first so you can enjoy your drink right after shaking it up. - Make the cocktail
In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine all required ingredients. Give everything a good shake until the sides of the glass are fully frosted. That means it's time to enjoy! - Serve & Garnish
Add fresh ice to your prepared glass, strain, and pour your shaken mixture on top. Garnish with lime and orange slices for a pop of flavor. Enjoy!

Garnishes
I enjoy serving this cocktail with a Tajin-coated rim and orange or lime wedges to compliment the mix's flavors. Other fun garnish ideas include a sugared rim for added sweetness, dehydrated orange slices for added citrusy flavor, and lime or lemon wedges on a cocktail pick for an elevated look.
What to Serve with Orange Mezcalitas
Compliment this cocktail's flavors by serving it with my Jamaican jerk chicken tacos or my coconut-crusted fish tacos, and top everything off with my fresh pineapple salsa!
