Whether you're eyeballing the pour or playing it safe with a jigger, this margarita with mix is your no-fuss, high-reward shortcut to happy hour.

Best Margaritas with a Mix
I first made this margarita using a mix during a "mood" where the only thing I had was tequila, a half-used bottle of margarita mix, and a dream. Three sips in and totally fine with skipping the fresh lime.
Margs aren't always about perfection. It's about knowing when to go full mix-mode and embrace the shortcut. Especially if you're already one marg deep and "eyeballing it like Tom Cruise in Cocktail." If you want to mix it up-pun intended-try my strawberry margarita using a mix next.
What You Need
You'll find the amounts to this Margarita Recipe with Mix in the recipe card below; but before you make any swaps and alter the cocktail, check out why each ingredient is needed:
- Tequila: use your favorite brand of blanco or silver.
- Margarita mix: below I recommend my favorite mix, but any mix will work just fine.
- Cointreau or Triple sec: adds the citrus liquor element to this margarita. Learn more about the differences between cointreau and triple sec here.
- Lime wedges: for garnish.
- Salt: for rimming the glass, optional.

How to Make Perfect Margaritas with a Mix
The detailed steps for making this cocktail are written in detail in the recipe card; here are some additional tips in each to ensure the best drink:
- Prep the glass
Always prep the glass first so you can pour the margarita right after shaking it at its most chilled state. - Make the cocktail
To a cocktail shaker filled with ice, add in the required ingredients. Give the mixture a good shake, you know have shaken enough when the sides are nice and frosted. - Pour & Garnish
Add fresh ice to the prepared glass and strain the margarita. Add a handful of ice cubes to fill it to the top and garnish it with a lime wedge.

What is the Ratio of Tequila to Margarita Mix
For lighter Margaritas, you can sip and be social; I recommend using a 1:4 ratio of tequila to margarita mix. For a little stronger, go with a 1:3 ratio of tequila to mix; making it a great slow sipper.
How to Serve Easy Margaritas
Always serve your margarita extra cold-nobody wants a lukewarm sip. Salt the rim (or sugar, if that's your vibe), toss in a lime wedge if you have it, and pour over a generous heap of ice.

This recipe was so helpful! A lot of margarita mixes do not go in depth on how to make a glass at home. I will definitely be using this for my next margarita made with a mix at home!

Just add mix, booze, and lavender. Yummy!☺️

Thank you for finally sharing a recipe that uses a margarita mix but tastes like the real thing! As a single person I don't always have fresh limes in the fridge so having a mix when i want a margarita is easier. When I only add tequila something is "missing" and the recipe here hit the spot!
