Learn to make an Elderflower Margarita, which is an elegant and light drink that's easy to sip on when you want an ultra-refreshing cocktail hour.

St. Germain Elderflower Margarita
This elderflower Margarita, made with St. Germain liquor, reminds me of one of my favorite bars in New Orleans, the Saint-Germain, a wine bar that had lots of cocktails made with this classic French liquor made with elderflowers.
Years ago, when I lived within walking distance, the bartender knew me as the "Margarita girl" because that's all I'd order. One day, he made me this twist on the Classic Margarita recipe I'd always asked for, and I've since become a huge fan of this lightly floral cocktail that's easy to sip and quite delightful.
Other cocktails I'd ask him to shake up for me included a Grand Marnier Margarita, a Cadillac Margarita, my epic Ginger Margarita, and, when feeling fancy, a frozen strawberry Margarita.
What Does Elderflower Taste Like?
Elderflower liqueur is lightly sweet in flavor and is infused with fresh elderberry flowers. The original brand is called St. Germain and is made in France, but you can nowadays find this delightful floral liquor cheaper under several brands.
Ingredients
Everything you need to make this fresh Elderflower Margarita will be listed in the recipe card below, but before you make any swaps, here is why each ingredient is used:
- Tequila: use your favorite brand of Blanco or Silver.
- Elderflower liqueur: this will give this drink its bright Elderflower flavor!
- Lime juice: freshly squeezed is always the best.
- Simple syrup: this will add a touch of sweetness to the cocktail if you want to keep sugars low, use a sugar-free cocktail syrup in place!
- Garnishes: salt (optional) for rimming and lime wedges.
Is Elderflower Syrup the Same as Elderflower Liquor
No, Elderflower syrup is a flower-flavored sweetener and does not contain alcohol, while Elderflower liquor contains 20% alcohol by volume (40 proof). If you have syrup and not liquor, check the recipe notes on how to make this recipe work for you.
How to Make an Elderflower Margarita
Gather your ingredients, and let's get shaking! The detailed steps are in the recipe card below; here are some additional tips in each to ensure the best sip:
- Prep the glass
Salted or unsalted, you'll want to start by rimming your glass so it's ready to enjoy right after making your margarita! - Make the cocktail
Combine all your ingredients in a cocktail shaker, making sure to give everything a good shake. It's time to sip when the sides of the glass are nice and frosted. - Pour & Serve
Make sure to strain your shaken mixture well before pouring over ice into your prepared glass. Top it off with a lime wedge for added flavor. Enjoy!

Garnishes for This Margarita
When it comes to this Elderflower Margarita, I like using citrusy garnishes to elevate the floral notes in this drink. Garnish with lime wedges or lemon slices; for a fancy twist, dried orange slices makes for the perfect finishing touch!
What to Serve with an Elderflower Margarita
Turn your cocktail hour into a full meal by pairing this drink with these taco lettuce cups, roasted cauliflower tacos, or my roasted chickpea and butternut squash tacos!
