When the sun's blazing and you are craving a tropical escape, let this Blue Hawaiian Margarita be your getaway.

Hawaiian Blue Margarita
Friends, there is nothing better than sipping on a tropical drink after a long, hot summer day at the office. In fact, I recently made this Hawaiian Blue Margarita just two weekends before when I decided to write it up to ease the craving.
Did it work? No. I headed straight home, and instead of making a Skinny Margarita, another favorite after a long day, I pulled out the simple ingredients that make this cocktail great and got shakin'. One sip, I was teleported elsewhere at 5 o'clock.
What Makes it Blue
Blue Curacao is the star liquor of this cocktail, giving this margarita its beautiful blue shade. It's a sweet citrus Caribbean liquor with added color to give it its iconic shade.
Beyond this margarita, you can swap it from triple Sec or Cointreau in many recipes, especially if you're making a pitcher margarita for a crowd or adding a little to a Pineapple Margarita.
What is in a Blue Margarita
This recipe has everything you'd expect in a margarita: tequila, Cointreau or triple sec, and lime juice. Then, to make it blue, you'll add Blue Curaçao liquor, which is also an orange liquor.
Since it's on the strong side, you could also add a splash of pineapple juice. Then, garnish it with pineapple wedges and maybe cherries for added sweetness. The exact amounts are in the recipe card.
How to Make a Blue Hawaiian Margarita
Pretend you're the bartender at a tropical resort by adding ice to a shaker, then all the margarita ingredients, and shake, shake, shake. When it comes to margs, the colder the better (so keep shaking). Then pour it over a lowball glass and garnish it.

Make a Pitcher
Try it once and you'll see why you need a pitcher of this epic Blue Hawaiian Margarita at your next gathering! Supersize the quantities and make about 8 cocktails by combining 1 cup of fresh lime juice (about 8 limes), 1 cup of tequila, ¼ cup Cointreau or triple sec, and ¼ cup Blue Curacao into a pitcher. Add a handful of ice cubes, and give the mix a good stir with a long spoon. Refrigerate for one hour, and pour over ice and garnish.
Hawaiian Garnishes
When I have guests over, and I am playing bartender, I like to give this cocktail a more tropical look to match its taste. To elevate this tropical margarita I'll garnish it with fresh pineapple wedges and maraschino cherries. In a pinch, I use frozen pineapple chunks skewered through a cocktail pick; those work, too!
What to Serve with this Summer Margarita
Now that you have an incredible cocktail, you'll need something to munch on! Grab your favorite salty chips and pair them with my Fresh Pineapple Salsa recipe to start. Need more? Make these easy Hawaiian Pork Tacos for the ultimate tropical gathering.
Blue Hawaiian Margaritas

Ingredients
- 1 ounce tequila, blanco or silver
- ½ ounce Cointreau or triple sec
- ½ ounce blue curacao
- 1 ¼ ounce lime juice
- Pineapple wedges, for garnish
Instructions
Make the cocktail:
- Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and add tequila, Cointreau, blue curacao, and lime juice. Shake until the sides are fully frosted. The more you shake, the colder, the better the marg.
Serve:
- Fill a glass with fresh ice and strain the mixture over the ice.
- Garnish with a pineapple wedge and maraschino cherries.
Notes
- This margarita is on the strong side. You can add a splash of pineapple juice or omit the Cointreau or triple sec, keeping the total cocktail volume to 1 ½ ounces.
- Make a pitcher (serves 8) with 1 cup fresh lime juice (about 8 limes), 1 cup tequila, ¼ cup Cointreau or triple sec, ¼ cup Blue Curacao. Add a handful of ice cubes, and use a long spoon to mix all the ingredients. Refrigerate for 1 hour. Pour the chilled margaritas over ice.
