Creamy Coconut Margarita

This weekend, relaxing poolside with girlfriends, I found myself craving a twist to my Classic Margarita Recipe. I peeked in my pantry and found a can of coconut milk, added it to our drinks and in a no time, we were enjoying this epic Coconut Lime Margarita!

It was good, I had to share the recipe so you can enjoy a little taste of vacation wherever you are.

What You Need

Made with the classic marg essentials, tequila (your favorite Blanco or Silver), lime juice, and Triple Sec or Cointreau, this cocktail adds coconut milk (or cream) to the mix for a creamy tropical vibe in each sip! Crave a bit of sweetness? Add a simple syrup!

Coconut Cream or Coconut Milk for this Marg

This Coconut Lime Margarita uses canned coconut milk, which is easy to find and likely what most of us have in our kitchens. For a thicker, creamier cocktail, swap in coconut cream, using the same amount as the coconut milk.

How to Make a Coconut Margarita

Grab your shaker and let's get mixing! Add the ingredients to a cocktail shaker filled with ice. You'll want to give everything a good shake until the sides of the glass are nice and frosted. Strain, serve in a glass filled with ice, and enjoy sipping!

Serving & Garnishing

While a salted rim is always a classic for Margaritas, change things up with a sugared rim to add a sweet surprise in every sip. For an extra burst of citrus, I love garnishing with lime twists or wedges to enhance the tropical flavors!

What to Serve with a Coconut Lime Margarita

Keep the taste of the tropics going by pairing this cocktail with these Hawaiian pork tacos, or my pineapple shrimp tacos, and top it all off with my fresh pineapple salsa!

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ ounces Blanco tequila
  • ½ ounce Cointreau or Triple Sec
  • 2 ounces lime juice
  • 2 ounces coconut milk, canned
  • ½ ounce simple syrup, optional

Instructions

Make the cocktail:

  • Fill a shaker with ice and pour tequila, Cointreau, lime juice, coconut milk (or coconut cream) and simple syrup (if using) into the shaker. Shake to combine until the sides of the shaker are fully frosted.

Serve & Garnish:

  • Fill a glass with ice and strain the cocktail into the glass.
  • Add a lime twist for a fancy finishing touch. Sip and enjoy!

Notes

  • Make it creamier by using coconut cream instead of milk.
  • FAQ: can I skip the Cointreau or triple sec? Yes. While not as rich in citrus flavor, it will be ok. Increase your tequila to 2oz.
